Common Off Page SEO Optimization Mistakes

In an earlier post I talked about the importance of off page optimization when it comes to getting higher rankings in google for your keywords.

Off-page optimization is most commonly known as, inbound link building or backlinks. You need to understand the importance of your backlink building strategy, and how it directly affects how to get your web pages to rank high in the search engines.

Although backlinks are key to building up your web pages in the search engines you want to be very careful as to how you build these backlinks.

Here are 3 of the most common off page optimization mistakes you should avoid.

* Creating too many backlinks too fast! You must be very careful your link building campaign, to make sure that you don’t build your back links too fast. You must control the amount of links per day that you acquire, so that they appear natural to the search engines. Be very careful, if you use a third party service that automates their directory submission process, they could actually end up flooding the search engines all at once and that could get you penalized by Google.

For directory submissions,  you should start with just a couple of daily submissions and increase it by several more, every 3 to4 days. This way google sees it as natural backlink growth and no red flags will be raised. If google sees a hugh spike in backlinks it may view it as a breaking news story and give you higher rankings for a few days, but your web page will quickly drop out of sight. When google sees slow steady growth it gives you more relevance and a long stay in their results.

* Distribution of your backlinks must look natural! This where trading links back and forth from other websites looks unnatural to google.

If you have 50 sites that are linking to you, and they also have links pointing back at each other, this appears  to be very unnatural to the search engines and it will appear to be a  link farm to them. To avoid this common problem you need to get more one-way links coming from sites, which do not link back and forth with one and another. There are link services that do this and you should avoid them or risk being penalized by google. This is why blogs, Directories, and Article directories are great sources for one way backlinks.

* Use of anchor text that appears unnatural! Using the same exact anchor text in all your backlinks appears to google that you are spamming the keywords.
When you submit your site to directories and blogs, you need to use different anchored text. Make sure you use different variations of your title and descriptions when acquiring back links.

Example: If your primary keywords are Internet Network Marketing Training, use other variations such as MLM Internet Training, Marketing MLM Online, etc…

You can even through a few domain name links in there also. www.yourwebpage.com

This gives google a variety of anchor text that all cover your basic subject and still covers your keywords. If you have a blog or website make sure you create backlinks to more than your main page. This is where secondary keywords can be used and it gives google a broader picture of your website.

You now know how important off page optimization is to getting higher rankings in the search engines. Building a slow and consistent one way army of back links is by the far the most important aspect to effective SEO in today’s internet marketing arena.

How To Improve Your Back Links With Anchor Text

If you are just learning how to improve your web pages in the search engines you need to read this article.

One of the keys to generating more leads is getting more traffic to your capture pages and blog. There are many different ways to do this and SEO also known as search engine optimization is one of them. Today I am going to discuss what is known as off page optimization.

What is off page optimization? When building web pages for search engines we need to design our pages to be search engine friendly. We want google to come through our page and rank our page based on the way we set up our page. This includes areas like the Title Tags, Keyword phrases in our text, link structure, H1 tags etc….

Today, we are going to address something even more important and that’s what is happening off our pages to increase our search engine rankings for our chosen keywords. What we are looking for are called back links to our web pages.

It is actually very easy to understand. Google looks at links from other websites to your web page as an endorsement and gives you more juice based on the amount of links coming back to your web pages.

It is more important to have back links then anything else, if you expect your web pages to show up in the search engine rankings. But, be warned it is not as much about quantity as it is about quality. You do not want to join any link farms or link building systems because it may do more harm then good.

That is why links from high quality sites such as article directories, Yahoo, DMOZ and high quality blogs, will help you more than just getting links from anyone you can find.

Here is the key to really pumping up your back links!

Whenever you write an article, post a blog, or link from one site to another, you should be using Anchor Text. First of all, let me explain what anchor text is so you can start using it right away.

Think about when you are reading through a web page and you come upon a link that is http://www.StepLadderMarketingSystem.com

That is considered a direct link using the URL, and the Google spiders see that as a url name when it follows it to your page. Now, lets take the same link and turn it into anchor text with my target keywords instead of the domain name -  Internet Network Marketing Training.  Notice that it links to the same web page but, I am using keywords associated with that page instead of just listing the domain name as the link.

This is so important if you want to get better search engine results for your targeted keywords!

When the google spider sees your anchor text back link, it now associates those keywords with the page it is going to. Combine solid anchor text back links with solid on page keywording and you are well on your way to getting better rankings in the search engines.

Whenever you are linking from an article you have written or a blog post to one of your capture pages, you should always use anchor text. It is a simple html code you must add to your page to achieve this.

<a href=”Your Web Page address here”>Anchor text here</a>

Just copy that simple code string above and paste it into a text pad on your desktop to use when you need it.

Anchor text is also important when you are building links within your website. Remember, when google follows any links to other pages in your website it also looks at the anchor text and it can help all your pages within your website.

If you are building lots of back links do not use the same exact anchor text in all your back links. Google will get suspicious if all your back links are the same text. Mix in a few keyword changes and an occasional straight URL link in there also.

Back links are a great way to use off page optimization to help climb in the search engine rankings, but using anchor text makes it that much more powerful.

How To Use Article Writing In Network Marketing

How to generate more leads and search engine presence writing articles for Network Marketing.

If you are currently using internet marketing to generate leads and promote yourself with the goal of  building a large team, you need to effectively drive traffic to your capture pages and blogs.

Driving traffic to your capture pages is probably the biggest obstacle for newcomers to internet network  marketing. Think about it, even if you have the best capture pages on the internet you will not generate leads if people are not visiting your pages everyday.

The purpose of this article is to expose you to an often overlooked and very powerful marketing strategy to hep you drive traffic to your capture pages.

Article writing is a very powerful marketing strategy to help you generate free leads. Although article marketing is not  new to the internet arena, it is often skipped by many network marketers because they do  not understand how it works. Through the years, many successful online businesses have used this strategy to drive traffic to their websites and generate leads.

If properly executed article marketing can really work for the average network marketer. It is free, but requires you put in the time needed to make it effective.

To maximize the potential of article writing, there are some very important ways to go about it.  First, you should have your own capture pages and blog.

There are 2 reasons to put up articles.

1. To write about interested and valuable topics that pertain to your business, product, or useful training tips and tools. it is important to avoid sales promotion because many article sites will not allow this.

Do some basic keyword research regarding your topic and choose a good keyword phrase to target for the search engines. Make sure you place your keyword phrase in your title and and scatter it throughout your article.

Do not overuse the keyword phrase and make sure it makes sense and fits in with your message. Your goal is to get search engine placement for the keyword phrase you are targeting.

Example: “How To Use Article Marketing In Network Marketing”

You cannot add links to your articles but you can add a link to your capture page in the Author’s Resource section at the bottom of your article. This is very important because this where the reader can click to learn more about you or your article topic.

Tip: End your article leaving the reader wanting more information and use your author resource link to move them to the next phase.

What is anchor text? Have you ever seen links to other pages that are highlighted words? You have seen words like Click Here and you click it and go to a web page.

Why is anchor text important? When google spiders your article it looks for keywords in your anchor text and gives those words more juice. Make sure you put your primary keywords to your capture page in the anchor text.

How do you do this? This is the code you will paste into your Author resource page

<a href=”Your Web Page address”> Keyword Phrase</a>

If you just put the domain name in there, Google will not attribute any keywords to your capture page or blog.

A good example of anchor text is my link to the Free Internet Network Marketing Boot camp at the bottom of this post.

As you learn more about SEO (search engine optimization) you will learn about the power of back links to your web pages. Google looks at the amount of back links to your site and gives you a boost if you have a lot of quality back links from other sites. Article directories are a great place to get back links.

The more articles you write the more back links you will receive.

This leads me into the second reason to write articles.

2. Articles for Back Links only. If you are simply posting to get back links the topic you write about is not so important. You can basically write numerous short articles about topics that interest you. They do not even have to have anything to do with network marketing. You are only posting to build your back links and don’t really care if the article shows in google.

Make sure you use anchor text for your keywords linking to your blog or capture pages.

Should you post to more than one  article directory. Absolutely! Although google will only consider one article for posting because it considers all the other directory posts as duplicate content and it will not penalize you.

How do you get around this? There is a very popular technique being used called article spinning.

What is article spinning? It is taking your original article and rewriting it, changing the title and basically posting different versions to different article directories. This gives you the ability to target different keyword phrases and increases your odds of getting search engine rankings. Plus it increases the unique back links to your capture pages and blog.

You can do this manually (which is very time consuming but worth the effort). I recommend you rewrite about 5 versions and place them in the top 4 article directories and 1 in your blog as a post.

You can also buy article spinning software that does this for you. Be careful, many of these programs spin your articles into unreadable messes that will hurt you. find an article spinning program that allows you to go in and change sentences and words before it spins.

Not only does it do a great job of spinning articles, it also has a automatic upload feature that allows you to upload your spun articles to numerous article directories. It takes an hour or 2 to set up, but once you set it up it will save you hours of manual labor. Go to Automatic Article Link

Regardless of how you use article marketing you must write lots of articles for this techniques to be effective. They do not have to be long 400-700 words is plenty. just make sure you get your point across and have your back link placed in your author resource section.

You should set a goal to do at least 1 article per day and increase this as you get better. Do not write 1 article per week and expect good results.

The nice part is that you can back link your articles to different pages based on what you are writing  about. Some articles can link to your blog, others to your capture pages. Just try to keep the anchor text consistent with your websites.

MLM And The New FTC Guidelines

You have probably heard by now that on December 1, 2009 the FTC will begin enforcing it’s new guidelines.

I have been doing a lot of research on these new guidelines and was preparing to sit down and write a long post on how it effects you and I. Guess what? I received an excellent email from fellow marketer Mark Widawer who had just posted a fantastic blog about new FTC guidelines and how it effects marketers and affiliates. In fact it was so good I decided to save some time writing my post and just provide you a link to his blog post.

I truly believe that it will be extremely hard for the FTC  to police the internet. However, if you are an internet marketer and have competition you can bet that they will be watching what you do. If you are out of compliance you can best believe that someone that would like to hurt you will report you to the FTC.

The best thing to do is find out what the new FTC guidelines are and remain compliant. Many of the affiliate sites out there right now will have to change their testimonials and income claims or risk the wrath of the FTC.
